Syntho is a UK Music Tech company created by founder Josh Baker. Syntho features world-touring artists teaching electronic music production via video tutorials, courses and track feedback. With over 600+ videos we are the number one destination for House Music producers, from day one to professional.
Syntho is growing, and with that we are expanding our team. We are a product-led business, focused on long-term value, quality, and sustainable growth.
The wider Syntho team is small but highly senior and experienced, with strong pedigree across engineering, content production, and the music industry. Many team members bring years of hands-on experience and industry credibility.
Front End Software Engineer
Introduction to the role
This is a hands-on role with ownership. You’ll be the first permanent front end hire and will take responsibility for the front end experience across web and mobile. You’ll play a key role in shaping and delivering software that is central to the business, while contributing to the practices and culture of the wider team.
The front end apps are a core part of the Syntho product. The hardest problems are around building media-heavy, high-performance experiences that work well across web and mobile. Performance, responsiveness, and reliability matter, as users spend long periods actively learning within the platform.
You’ll be expected to:
- Own and evolve the front end experience across web and mobile
- Design and build user-facing features used by a global audience
- Help shape product and technical decisions through experience and judgement
- Maintain a high bar for code quality, testing, and delivery
- Contribute across the full stack where it helps the team move faster
- Work closely with the wider Syntho team to solve real user problems
- Improve delivery and technical practices through collaboration and continuous improvement
Tech stack
- React Native used across web and mobile
- .NET backend APIs
- AWS infrastructure
- CI/CD via GitHub Actions
We value strong engineering fundamentals and product judgement over narrow framework expertise.
You might be a good fit if you…
- Have strong front end skills and care deeply about usability, performance, and polish
- Care about product outcomes and users, not just implementation details
- Have experience shipping and supporting production software in product teams
- Are comfortable taking ownership and working independently day to day
- Apply sound software design principles and write clear, maintainable code
- Write well-tested code, including unit, integration, and end-to-end tests
- Have experience with continuous delivery and automated release pipelines
- Are comfortable working across the full stack when needed
- Are experienced with modern cloud platforms and practices
- Communicate well and work effectively in collaborative environments
- Are comfortable with ambiguity and enjoy working in early-stage, growing products
- If you love electronic music, that is a bonus
This role will not suit someone who needs detailed task breakdowns or close day-to-day direction. We’re looking for someone comfortable identifying problems, proposing solutions, and driving work forward independently.
Location
This is a hybrid role. The team works primarily remotely, with in-person collaboration where it adds value.
You will need to be within reasonable commuting distance of Leeds and flexible to work from our Leeds (and occasionally Manchester) co-working bases on a semi-regular basis, typically 1 to 3 times per month.
Benefits
- A role with real ownership and impact
- Competitive pay and equity in Syntho
- The chance to shape the future of a fast-growing music-tech platform

Managing Director
Introduction to the role
We’re hiring a Managing Director to run day-to-day execution of the business. Your job is to translate the strategy into clear priorities, align the team around them, and drive consistent delivery and commercial progress.
This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who thrives in early-stage environments and can create clarity, accountability, and momentum across product, content, marketing, data, finance, and operations.
What you’ll be responsible for…
Execution and Operating Rhythm
- Run the weekly leadership meeting and ensure it produces decisions, owners, deadlines, and follow-through
- Maintain visibility across all active projects and priorities
- Hold team leads accountable to agreed deliverables and timelines
- Remove blockers and keep work moving week to week
Cross-Functional Alignment
- Ensure content, CRM/marketing, product, data, support, and engineering are executing against the same outcomes
- Coordinate dependencies (e.g. content releases → CRM pushes → live promotion → engagement loops)
- Reduce “busy work” by keeping teams focused on the initiatives that move the numbers
KPIs and Performance
- Implement the KPI framework agreed with CEO
- Ensure each function has clear measurable targets and reports weekly
- Use data to diagnose what’s working, what isn’t, and drive adjustments
- Support performance management: expectations, feedback, action plans
People and Operations
- Line manage key functions (as agreed): CTO, Growth/Marketing, Data, Finance provider, and other leads as the org evolves
- Support hiring plans, role definition, and recruitment where needed
- Own day-to-day HR operations: contracts, compensation changes, policies, leave approvals, contractor management
- Build and maintain a motivated, engaged team.
- Create an environment where people feel supported, accountable, and able to do their best work
Finance, Cash and Control
- Work with the finance provider to maintain accurate budgets and P&L reporting
- Monitor spend, flag risks early, and report weekly cash position to the Founder
- Ensure payroll and contractor payments run correctly and on time
External Readiness (Supporting, Not Distracting)
- Keep key documents and materials current to preserve the option to raise capital
- External activity is only pursued where it directly supports execution priorities and commercial outcomes
What Success Looks Like (First 90 Days)
- A working weekly operating rhythm with clear owners, deadlines, and follow-through
- Simple weekly reporting on cash, revenue, cancellations, live attendance, and engagement
- Teams aligned, engaged, motivated and executing against the agreed vision and plan
- Measurable progress on core business levers: live attendance, in-app engagement, reduced cancellations
- Reduced founder dependency: the business runs smoothly while Josh is touring or in the studio
What This Role Is Not
- Not a strategy-only position, strategy is set by CEO
- Not an advisor role, you own delivery and accountability
About You
- Proven operator who has led execution in a startup or high-growth environment
- Strong commercial instincts, you focus on outcomes, not activity
- Strong people leadership, able to motivate teams and hold high standards
- Financially literate, able to work with budgets, P&Ls, and cash control
- Organised, decisive, and calm under pressure
- Passion for music, creator products, or subscription businesses is a strong plus
Location and Working Style
Ideally Manchester or North of England. You’ll work closely with the Founder and will be expected to lead from the front. Whilst the team works largely remotely, we hold regular in person working days, typically in Manchester or Leeds, to bring people to together as often as we can
What We Offer
- Full-time role with real ownership and impact
- Competitive pay and equity in Syntho
- The chance to shape the future of a fast-growing music-tech platform
